For best results pan fry from defrost. The following instructions are guidelines only. Ensure that the product is thoroughly cooked before serving.
Do NOT refreeze after defrosting.
PAN FRY
- Defrost in a refrigerator for 12 hours
- Remove from all packaging before cooking.
- Allow steak to rest at room temperature for 10 minutes before cooking.
- Rub the steak with a little oil and season with salt and pepper.
- Heat a heavy based frying pan over a high heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Place the steak in the dry pan and cook over a high heat for 1 minute each side.
- Add additional timing for preferred steak:
- 2 minutes each side for rare.
- 3 minutes each side for medium.
- 4 minutes each side for well done.
- Once cooked, rest for at least 5 mins.
BBQ
- Defrost in a refrigerator for 12 hours
- Remove from all packaging before cooking.
- Allow steak to rest at room temperature for 10 minutes before cooking.
- Rub the steak with a little oil, and season with salt and pepper.
- Ensure the BBQ is hot, place gently on the griddle & cook for 2-3 minutes each side.
- Add additional timing for preferred steak:
- 2 minutes each side for rare.
- 3 minutes each side for medium.
- 4 minutes each side for well done.
- Once cooked, rest for at least 5 mins.
Keep frozen at -18°C. Use by date indicated on the pack. Should this product defrost, keep refrigerated and consume within 2 days.
Why not try:
- Ostrich Fillets with Creamy Garlic Mash: Season the ostrich fillets and sear in a hot pan until browned and cooked to your liking. Remove and rest while you make a simple creamy garlic sauce in the same pan. Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans.
- Ostrich Fillet Stir-Fry: Slice the ostrich fillets into thin strips and quickly stir-fry with peppers, broccoli, mangetout and spring onions. Add a simple soy, garlic and ginger sauce and serve with noodles or steamed rice.
- Ostrich Fillet with Pesto Pasta: Sear the ostrich fillets and slice once rested. Toss cooked pasta with green pesto, cherry tomatoes and spinach, then top with the sliced ostrich and a little grated Parmesan.
- Ostrich Fillet Fajitas: Slice the ostrich fillets into strips and fry with peppers, onions and fajita seasoning. Serve in warm tortillas with salsa, guacamole, sour cream and grated cheese.
- Ostrich Fillet with Sweet Potato and Feta: Pan-sear the ostrich fillets and rest before slicing. Serve with roasted sweet potato, crumbled feta and a fresh rocket salad, finished with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
- Ostrich Fillet Noodle Bowl: Quickly sear the ostrich fillets and slice thinly. Serve over noodles with shredded carrots, cucumber, edamame and spring onions, then drizzle with a sesame and soy dressing.
- Ostrich Fillet with Peppercorn Sauce: Sear the ostrich fillets in a hot pan and rest before serving. Make a quick peppercorn sauce with stock, cream and crushed peppercorns. Serve with crispy roast potatoes and tenderstem broccoli.
- Ostrich Fillet Flatbreads: Slice cooked ostrich fillets and serve in warm flatbreads with hummus, roasted peppers, rocket and red onion. Finish with a drizzle of garlic yoghurt and serve with a simple salad.
